620 Opelousas Apartments
The 15,000 SF former Masonic Temple located at 620 Opelousas Avenue in the historic Algiers Point neighborhood was originally made up of two double-height stories of assembly spaces. To adapt the building into ten apartments, Albert Architecture had to consider modern building codes, new utility services, and common amenities. Additionally, the new residential units required creative plan layouts to maximize the square footages while maintaining elements of the original double-height spaces.
Albert Architecture designed ten unique one and two bedroom two-story units. All units have access to a common roof deck with sweeping views of downtown New Orleans and the surrounding Algiers neighborhood. Many of the units have double-height living spaces in order take advantage of the expansive steel windows that were painstakingly restored. Original concrete floors, brick, and plaster details were maintained and exposed. The sensitive renovations to the interior as well as the restoration of the exterior masonry structure qualified the project for both State and Federal Historic Tax Credits.
