Urquhart Street Studios
The St. Claude-Bywater neighborhood of New Orleans has become known as a place that nurtures and encourages artists, musicians, and creative spirits. Albert Architecture was asked to design two new-construction 2,000 SF live/work artist studios that would compliment the burgeoning creative vibe. The warehouse-like designs were inspired by the location of the lot, which sits at an intersection of industrial and residential buildings. The working artist studios are located on the ground floor of the buildings, with large operable fenestrations directed onto a common courtyard to encourage a sense of collaboration and community between the artists. The second floors are for the more private living quarters, with crisp vaulted ceilings, exterior balconies, and a modern/industrial aesthetic throughout.
