West Palm Beach VA MRI Addition
The VA Medical Center in West Palm Beach, Florida is a general medical, psychiatric and surgical facility. The existing MRI equipment was located in a temporary trailer and did not meet the standards of the state-of-the-art facility. Albert Architecture designed a new addition with in-patient and out-patient reception areas, prep rooms, changing rooms, and recovery rooms to support the two new high-tech MRI scanning rooms.
When designing for medical facilities, Albert Architecture’s goal is to apply good design to improve patient experience and promote healing in what could potentially be a high-stress, sterile environment. Soothing shades of pale blue and warm finishes were selected to promote calming surroundings. A recessed ceiling cove in the scanning rooms is lit by color-changing lights to give the patients a sense of openness and expanse of space to ease their transition into and out of the MRI equipment. Organic lines and an abundance of natural light were also incorporated into the design. The result is a new hospital addition with an atmosphere that is miles away from clinical.
